Adult Leaders step up into new roles

Assistant Chief Commissioner Program Lachie Page has recently made new appointments to his team. Get to know the members who have stepped into these new roles:
Deputy Assistant Chief Commissioner – Program Support: Fiona Hore, 1st Bellingen Scout Group (North Coast) Why have you taken this role? Scouting is a big part of who I am. I have been fortunate enough in my journey so far to be able to hold roles where I can support and help build teams of amazing Leaders. I have taken this role to be able to continue to do this and assist our Leaders to develop their skills and knowledge whilst feeling seen, heard and supported. What are you excited about in Scouts currently? I am excited to see the next generation of young Leaders coming through with the passion and drive that keeps Scouting going! |
State Commissioner – Joey Scouts: Jen Kodsy, 1st Camden South Scout Group (Hume) Why have you taken this role? I have taken on this role because I am passionate about Joeys beginning their Scouting journey in a fun and safe environment. What are you excited about in Scouts currently? I am excited about all youth getting out and about in an array of positive experiences. And from a Leader’s perspective, there are so many potential opportunities to work with and support people who want to see our youngest Scout section to be successful. |
State Commissioner – Cub Scouts: Alex Hanna, Carey Bay/Toronto Scout Group (Hunter and Coastal) Why have you taken this role? I am a new Leader, but an old Scout. I experienced Joeys to Venturers on the old program. Coming back as a Leader and into a new program was challenging, but exciting. I want to be able to provide as much support as I can to the Cub section and explore ways we can implement new adventures and activities within it. What are you excited about in Scouts currently? Opportunities and change. There are so many wonderful opportunities and experiences offered by Scouts. |
State Commissioner – Scouts: Craig Kokay, 1st Winston Hills Scout Group (GWS) Why have you taken this role? I was most recently the Cub Scout Leader at 1st Winston Hills Scout Group. I have held roles in Joeys, Cubs and Scouts in Australia and New Zealand, and have attended many Australian, New Zealand and World Scout Jamborees, and once was a camp counsellor for a season with Scouting America (formerly BSA). I have two daughters who are also involved in Scouting and there being sufficient Leaders in the Scout section, it was time to explore new opportunities and further my horizons. I am interested in how the Scout Units are implementing the program, using Unit Councils, and interpreting the requirements for the peak award. What are you excited about in Scouts currently? I am excited that Scouts are trying new things, such as the recent Governor-General’s Camp in Canberra where I was the NSW Contingent Leader. This camp was different as it was for all sections – Joeys through to Rovers – over five days and, unlike other major camps, it was not Scout Group-centric, but focused on an individual choice to participate. The Scouts got the choice of what activities they wanted and daily formed activity-based Patrols. Youth-led, adult-supported is fundamental as much as using the Patrol system to a successful Unit. Wherever possible in the Scout Groups that I’ve been involved with, it’s been about the Scouts running the program. I don’t give answers, I give knowledge. The most powerful thing that one can do is to pass on that which you learned, providing it was correct in the first place. If not, seek out who or where to get that knowledge, just like I expect from my Scouts. |
